Hike to one of the most popular volcanoes in Arequipa. The Chachani volcano is the highest and closest volcano near Arequipa. To do this activity no experience is needed, however we recommend to have a proper acclimatization. Through this hike we feel  we are at the top of the world. Perfect activity for adventurous or wildlife travelers!

Day 1:

Early morning, our guide and driver will pick ups from our hotel to begin this journey using our 4X4 vehicles. Our trip will go through hills and roads arriving to a plateau called  Pampa Cañahuas where we will see different endemic flora and fauna.

Optional: As an extension, we recommend visiting the Puruña Rock forest. A small 20 minutes hike less visited by travelers and formed by volcanic eruptions.

Our journey will continue towards “El Collado” a place located at 5100 mts. (16732 ft.)  above sea level. From this point, we will drive through and accidented road taking us 40 minutes approximately to start our hike. Our first day will have an easy gradual path to follow. We will hike through pre-incan roads and hills taking us through some archaeological centers. 

After two hours, we will arrive to our base camp (5200 mts/ 17060 ft.). Here we will have our lunch, enjoy the sun set and our dinner.

Day 2:

This day, upon our body acclimatization to altitude, we will wake up around 2:00 am or 4:00 am. We will have our breakfast and get ready to conquer the top of the Chachani volcano. We will ascend around 900 mts towards the top. The hike will take us between 4 to 6 hours according to our physical condition. Once at the top, we will enjoy the outstanding view observing the mountains and volcanoes that surround this part of the region. After a small rest, we will begin our descent towards our base camp to have lunch and get ready to continue our hike to the starting point. Our vehicle will be waiting for us to drive us to Arequipa arriving approximately at 4:00 pm.
